Wolston Farmhouse – Brisbane’s oldest surviving residential farmhouse – is a significant local historical site that invites visitors to reflect on the past and its relationship to the present. In Wolston’s curriculum-driven Education Program, students participate in a drama immersion program designed to transport them back to nineteenth-century Queensland pastoral life and consider the impact that changes in technology, domesticity, and society have had on people’s lives.

Our Education Program engages with the past through hands-on experiential learning, immersing students in the day-to-day domestic life of the nineteenth century.

Students will be guided through the experience by our trained staff and volunteers, with teacher/parent support.

The program is best suited for Years 1 and 2 but is easily adapted to suit other year levels and mixed-year level groups. Homeschool excursion groups are welcome.

2025 Program Pricing is $18.00 per student | Minimum booking: 30 students | Maximum per day: 60 students.

Starting in 2026, our school and education program fee will be *$22 per child. This fee helps support the ongoing care of Wolston Farmhouse and ensures we can continue providing engaging, hands-on learning experiences for students.

Bring history to life with an immersive education program at Wolston Farmhouse, where students will step into the past and experience rural life as it was in colonial times.

From the moment they arrive, students will be hands-on with authentic historical activities— cooking, cleaning, and washing just as families did over a century ago. Inside the beautifully preserved farmhouse and throughout the gardens, they’ll engage in interactive experiences that make history both fun and memorable.

But the learning doesn’t stop there! Outside, students will jump, spin, and race through traditional nineteenth-century games, bringing a whole new meaning to the outdoor classroom.

With guidance from passionate staff and volunteers—and always under the watchful eyes of teachers and carers—students will be transported to a world before modern conveniences, gaining a deeper appreciation for the past.
